Fatherhood Chronicles: Part 5 -Buttons-

Image
The Devil, Hitler, The Person who thought it was a good idea to put buttons on onsies. At 4:20am, the time I am writing this, I’m not sure who #1 should be on that list....... I’ll make this short and sweet today. Buttons on onsies could be one of the single worst things ever created, hands down. I was given this advice before Rocco was born. Now I am passing it off to any couples expecting a child. When you’re all excited and buying baby clothes along with cute little onsies. If you pick something up and it has close to 1000 buttons on it. Just put it down. Walk away. The cute little dinasour or animal on it is not worth it. Go find anything and everything that has a zipper. At 3am when your child is screaming and you’re moving as fast as you can. Zippers are King.  You can thank me latter.  Rocco - 3 Brandon - 2

Fatherhood Chronicles: Part 4 -Bath Time-

Image
Today was BATH DAY! (that’s how excited I have to get when I am talking to Rocco regarding Bath Time). Usually Bath Time is around 7. Then he enjoys a delicious bottle. Then it’s bedtime. Today Rocco had other plans for me. At around d 3p Rocco starts crying as he awoke from his slumber. I picked him up and started to change him. Rocco is laying on the changing table, he looks up at me, gives me that Infamous smirk, and starts to  pee. Everywhere. All over himself, the wall, the changing table, and me. This incident probably lasted about 5-6 seconds but as it was happening it felt like forever. You know In Action movies when a sidekick dives in front of a bullet or an object that is heading right towards their friend? That is what it felt like for me when I was trying to protect Roccos face from his incoming pee.  After that fun filled diaper change I decide Bath Time would be now.  In our loft we do not have a bathtub. We use a baby tub that sits in the sink. It’s actual...

Fatherhood Chronicles: Part 3 -Leaving the House-

Image
As I spend more time with Rocco I am realizing how easy tasks become harder than usual.  Leaving the house, BR (Before Rocco) all I needed was keys and wallet. Leave whenever I wanted and put off getting up and getting ready. AR (After Rocco) I have make sure I give my self enough time not just for me but to get him ready and make sure I am not forgetting anything. The clock starts about an hour before I have to leave.  Rule #1 is real easy. -Don’t forget the baby-. I have that mastered.  It’s everything else I need. I seem to always forget something. There is so much you need just to go to the grocery store.  -An extra pair of clothes for when he spits up/throw up. Or the always fun “blow outs” -diapers -bottles -blanket  -A shirt for me incase any of the above gets on me. -Wipes -burp rag -bibs -pacifier -back up pacifier -back up to the back up pacifier  (If you lose the burp rag just look on your shoulder)  That is just for a quick stop. If we’re g...

Fatherhood Chronicles: Part 1

Image
My 14 day -Mr. Dad- began at dusk today. While Elizabeth begins her life back at work I am tasked with staying home with Rocco. 4am rolled around and I was awaken by the slight roar of a child in need of a change and food. Preparing a bottle is a lot like a pit crew In NASCAR. If I don’t work fast enough I will lose the race. Good thing for me, this race will last at least 18yrs and I don’t want to disappoint him already.  After the bottle it was back down for hopefully 4 more hours of sleep. I was able to get 3. I will take it.  As Elizabeth kissed us goodbye I knew the next 9 hours would be won in the trenches. The trenches today consisted of entertainment. I laid out the ground work for a fun filled day of play chair to play mat. I also Sprinkled in a little tummy time and a nap. I knew if the game plan was kept this would be a victory for me.  Rocco and I bounced around and when all the routines were done......it was 1230p....... I discovered a high pitch...

Fatherhood Chronicles: Part 2-Naps-

Image
Naps. Something I thought going into this was a given. Babies nap. That’s just what they do. At 3months, which Rocco is, all they do is eat, poop/pee, and sleep. Well lucky for Eizabeth and I we created the only newborn that doesn’t want or like sleep. In saying that he sleeps really well at night. He will go to bed at 8pm and only wake up once to eat, but as soon as 7am rolls around he is up all day.  Rocco will take cat naps. Two to three 10-15 minute naps. That’s about it. Now, a 3month old who doesn’t take a nap, entertaining them for 9 hours is tough, but trying to get him to sleep when he doesn’t want to is a battle that goes 12 rounds every day with the judges giving the unanimous decision to Rocco every time.  I honestly think he does it on purpose. We will be sitting in the chair, he’s eyes are about to close. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then. Bam. Roccos eyes are wide open and he gives me a smile. Now, not a happy smile. It’s more of a...

Stay Safe. Stay Sane. - Siclari

Image
A photo of me looking to go out on a Friday night during COVID-19. We're all this guy right now. First off. I hope everyone is doing well during these times. Not only with staying safe, but staying sane. My family is doing really well at the staying safe part.  Its the sane part that I am struggling with. 2020. You started out so well. Seven days in you gave me my son Rocco and things were looking upward. Then it all went to shit. Not with Rocco just with everything that is going on. Instead of taking Rocco out in to the world we are showing him around our 1200sq foot loft with no yard and only 3 small windows that will open. COVID-19 has taken over 2020. Lets go back to Jan, the last time you heard from me. I can let everyone know that Brandon Siclari has kept a human being alive and well for 3 months now. Whoever bet under 3 months, I will be awaiting your apology. Social Distancing has gone OK for me. I will be the first one to tell you that I am not one of these ...

My 1st Week - Fatherhood / By: Siclari

Image
Yes. That below picture is me. Right after the Bills playoff game. You're probably thinking there is no way that guy could be a father. Fast forward 2 days. . . . . Early Tuesday Morning at 12:30 am after an exhilarating premier of The Bachelor (Go Madison!) Elizabeth tells me its time to go to the hospital. Baby Rocco decided to come into the world on his own terms. It has been a week now and I have learned a lot. Not about what I am supposed to do (I'm just winging it right now) but I learned some odd ball things that I really didn't notice until now. First off. It amazes me that dog parents have to go through a background check and a house visit before they can have the dog. All I needed was a car seat. They cut off his wristband and we were on our way. You don't even need a car or reliable transportation. Some lady was let go before us because she needed a ride and it was coming at a certain time. You could live under a bridge for all they know. All you need i...

Christmas/Holiday Movie Power Rankings - By: Siclari - Pop Culture

Image
I am the guy who listens to Christmas music the day 102.5 starts playing it. Also, thank you to channel 33 on SiriusXM radio for having a channel dedicated to Christmas music. Every year I DVR all of the Christmas movies and make a point to watch as many as possible. Over the years I realized myself gravitating towards the same movies while making it a point to not watch certain ones because they're either a: Overrated, b: Really bad. Also, HARRY POTTER IS NOT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE SO PLEASE STOP AIRING THEM!! This list consist of movies I have seen. Let me get the movies out of the way that I know people will be like "How is X not on your list" or, "How have you not seen X". Miracle on 34th Street (any of them) Christmas Vacation Bad Santa Other than the obscure really old black and white films or a majority of the one off animated movies I have seen most. I will start with #10 and work my way to #1. A Christmas Story - Overrated A Nightmare Before...

#BrandonLikesWings #7 - Gordy's Inn II / West Seneca, NY

Image
I have been going to Gordy's since around 2010. It's a great place to hang out with friends, watch sporting events, hold a Beer Blast or stag. Gordy's is very accommodating to their guest. If you have been going there for years, or if it’s your first time there. The bartenders will great you like a friend and most likely remember your order the next time you stop in. In the close to 9 years I have been spending my Taco Tuesdays at Gordy's I never tried their "famous" Pancho Loco wings. While I was downing my usual, 2 hard shell/2 soft shell, just meat and cheese, hot tacos I figured I give their Wings a try.  If you walk into the front door of Gordy's you're greeted with a square bar filled with locals who have been sitting there since their shift ended. if you're lucky you can find a seat at the bar, if not, you will have to stand in the crowded area behind the bar with not much room. Their 3 TV's surrounding the bar can be visible fr...

DO SOMETHING / By: Siclari : Sports

Image
Do something. That is what I will be saying all season long. The puck drops on the Buffalo Sabres season and to be honest, I am already pissed. I feel like it has more to do with me preparing myself for what is to come. Every other year I came in positive. They have the two pieces that are the toughest to get, #1 Center and #1 Defenseman. Then, the season starts and by the end of the 1st period I'm yelling at the TV. I don't know if Marty Funicane's view on the Sabres is rubbing off on me but how can we be this bad for so long? Worst to first is not out of the norm in the NHL. Do something.  This team has beaten and tortured its fan base to a point where we cant even get happy when the team scores. If you watch all the games, you know as soon as the Sabres score a majority of the time the other team will score soon after. Beaten and tortured its fan base to a point where we cant get happy about a 10 game win streak. Beaten and tortured its fan base to a point where...

#BrandonLikesWings #6 - Hoak's / Hamburg, NY

Image
I will start by saying I did not go here for wings. My friend Garret asked me go out to dinner with his in-laws at Hoak's. While I was there i noticed some wings and said "why not". AMAZING view!! When you walk in you enter into a small bar area. Even from here you can see the water. 2 TV's are placed in prime location to catch a game while you're grabbing a drink. This is a prime location for a dinner with the family or day drinks with your friends. It served its purpose while we were waiting for our table. The bartenders were very friendly and even with the influx of people waling in their service was quick. As I mentioned above this is a great place to chill, so the lack of a pool table and dart board is not surprising. I didn't see a Touch Tunes but there could of been one around the corner or in an area I didn't see.  I grabbed some crispy, hot wings for my appetizer. Presentation was alright. I think they're were trying to be fancy with a...

Dress Bet 2.0 - Return of the Dress / By: Siclari

Image
Dress bet 2.0 –          Lets go back 2 years ago. Jeffrey Scott Krol and I were drinking at New York Beer Project and were debating how many games the bills would win. After 1 to 6 beers Jeff and I set the over under at 5.5. Jeff took the under, I took the over. As we all know that year the Buffalo Bills made the playoffs with a 9-7 record. Jeff had to wear a dress that our significant others picked out. Jeff, a man of his word, wore the dress during one of our Game On! Football games that spring.          F ast forward to this summer. Once again Jeff and I after some horseshoes and beers were talking about the Bills. I have mentioned multiple times that throwing 300yards a game in the NFL should be easy. Jeff and I with some help from his fiancé Christine came up with Dress bet 2.0. The bet. . . . . .Josh Allen 300yard passing games this season, the O/U was set at 3.5. If Josh Allen throws for 300yards in 4 games, I win...

#BrandonLikesWings #5 - Elmos / Getzville, NY

Image
If you ever find yourself in Getzville, NY my guess would be it's because you're at Elmo's. A bar nestled in the middle of a plaza on Millersport Highway about a half a mile away from University at Buffalo. Like most of the places Marty and I have gone to, you would have no idea to stop here unless you were looking for it. When you walk in you will realize it's a mix between a college and small town bar. Very dark. With the amount of wings Elmos sells I would suggest they invest in some lights or brighter lights bulbs. Marty and I were lucky to get a place at the bar. We arrived around 6:30 and by 7 the whole bar was full with most of the tables taken up by college students.     Marty ordered the standard Medium wings while I went with the -Double dipped wings. Hot & Cajun-. The bartender came over and put a wooden pallet looking thing on the bar in front of us, which we realized is what the wings would be placed on. The presentation of the wings was what you ex...

#BrandonLikesWIngs #3: Nine-Eleven Tavern - South Buffalo

Image
The top answer I hear when I ask "where is the best place in Buffalo for wings?" is Nine-Eleven Tavern in South Buffalo. I've driven down South Park hundreds of times and never knew Nine-Eleven was right on the corner of SP and Bloomfield. The bar sits right in the middle of a residential area and looks like a townee bar. When you walk in, that's exactly what it is. There is a small bar that sits 16-20 people max with 2-3 small bar top tables. Lining the back wall is a shuffleboard table. If you make a left when you walk in there is a small dinning area. Luckily for Marty and I we went on an off night and the bar was not crowded. We heard on some nights its jam packed and they run out of wings.         We got a seat right in front of a TV that was on ESPN and to our left was a "Yankess encore" game from 2007. We heard couple of locals talking about their days, Marty even made a friend while he was sitting there. . . . . . This was my first time ever go...

#BrandonLikesWings #2: Dalmatia Hotel - Riverside/Buffalo

Image
Our next journey took us to the Black Rock/Riverside are to Dalmatia Hotel. If you are not greeted by the regulars as they smoke on the patio you will be greeted by a bunch sitting at the bar. If you're lucky you might be greeted by Prim. The cute little pug of the bartenders. Dalmatia hotel is a dive bar with locals spilling out the door. You can tell the people at the bar come here often. The atmosphere is friendly, the bartenders and cooks are so personable. They have music and TouchTunes if you're into that. Darts, pool, a bowling video game, and even offer Tarot card readings on Friday. Corn Hole tournaments on Wednesdays. 3 TV's. One with sports, and two with local channels. They offer popcorn and a wide menu of apps, and entrees. People of all ages frequent this bar. Cheap drinks and good food. The only draw back of my experience today was the door was open which made it breezy and the cigarette smoke from the patio came into the bar. With all that said, this ...

#BrandonLikesWings - Glen Park Tavern - Williamsville, NY

Image
In the Heart of Williamsville sits Glen Park Tavern. A popular spot for not only the towny crowd but also the influx of traffic for “Music on Main” I have heard “try the wings at GPT”  When you walk in there is a long bar down the left side. Usually crowded with people over 50.  Small place with a lot of people.  Seeing how this is my first go at this, I want to let you know I will not only be rating the Wings (the most important part) but the place and the atmosphere. Let me preface that these are MY opinions along with help and guidance from people along the way. For the establishment I always want certain things when I am enjoying a beer and wings (besides wings) Establishment: 1. TouchTunes 2. Dart Board 3. Pool Table 4. TV’s to watch sports  5. Good atmosphere.   6. Beer Selection For the wings: 1 . Taste 2. Crispness  3. Sauce  4. Presentation.  Along the way I will have friends and family join me while trying different win...

New Stadium, who Dis? // By: Siclari // Sports

Image
Why cant we have nice things?  I don't get it. I am sick and tired of the "Blue Collar", we don't need nice things attitude that has been attributed to Buffalo. I like winning and good players. I don't need a player to be "...a hard worker who pulls up their sleeves and tries real hard". Yes, those things are important but it comes down to one thing, can said athlete play at a high level in their respective sport? I feel like this mentality is seeping into the new stadium talks. "We don't need a new stadium downtown, the stadium is fine the way it is". -Random person I heard at the bar last weekend. Really? It is? Have you visited stadiums across the league? New Era Field needs a lot of work. It is not fine the way it is. I am leaning slightly towards downtown for reasons not to do with football, besides that I would be ok with Orchard Park or another location close to where it is now. I just want a NEW stadium. Why am I leaning dow...
